Level system
A level system — also called a tile levelling system — holds tiles at exactly the same height while the adhesive cures. It prevents lippage, which is the height difference between adjacent tiles, and delivers a perfectly flat tiled surface. Especially with large-format tiles, where even small deviations are immediately noticeable, a level system is indispensable.
Clips, wedges and plier
The system consists of three components: clips placed under the tile, wedges that tighten the clips and pull adjacent tiles to the same height, and a plier that drives the wedges home. After the adhesive cures you snap off the clips at their break point, which sits just below the tile surface. The wedges are reusable; the clips are single-use. This makes the system economical on large-scale projects.
Application with large-format tiles
For tiles of 60x60 cm or larger a level system is standard practice. The bigger surface makes it harder to lay the tile perfectly flat by hand, and every bit of lippage is magnified at larger format. But even with smaller tiles a levelling system pays off when you want a flawless result — think natural stone floors, terrace tiles and commercial spaces where quality is non-negotiable.
