Tile drill bits dry

Dry tile drill bits are the fastest way to make holes in wall tiles, floor tiles and standard ceramics without water cooling. They are perfect for situations where you need a quick hole — for a towel rail, mirror, tap rosette or pipe penetration — without setting up a water supply.

Fast, clean drilling without water

Dry tile drill bits feature a vacuum-brazed diamond layer that delivers immediate sharpness with no break-in period. Position the bit, drill at medium speed and you have a clean, round hole within seconds. Always use a drill stand or guide template to prevent wandering, particularly on glazed tiles where the bit can skate on the smooth surface. For hard-fired tiles with a high Mohs hardness, lower the drilling speed and apply cooling gel to maximise bit life.

Optimise performance with cooling gel

For hard-fired tiles with a Mohs hardness above 7, reduce the drilling speed and apply cooling gel to maximise bit life. On standard wall tiles you can drill faster; gel is optional but always recommended for a cleaner hole.

Although these bits work without water, you can substantially extend their service life by using cooling gel. A dab of gel on the drill location keeps the diamond layer cool and prevents premature wear. Especially on hard-fired porcelain and polished tiles, cooling gel makes the difference between five and fifteen holes per bit — a worthwhile addition to your toolkit.

Suitable for all standard tile work

Dry tile drill bits are available in diameters from 6 mm to 120 mm, covering every common application from small screw holes to large tap recesses. We also carry individual bits in less common sizes for special requirements. Order the sizes you use most often, or choose a complete set for maximum flexibility — and contact us if you need a diameter that is not listed in the standard range.

We also stock individual bits in less common sizes for special applications. Contact us if you need a diameter not listed in the standard range — we can usually source it quickly.
